The Champs Secrets Revealed!!

 Every year I have the pleasure of meeting, chatting to or interviewing people that have achieved amazing success with MP. They come from all different walks of life – all with very unique situations and circumstances, but ironically I seem to hear them say very similar things.

On the other hand, when talking to other people about body transformation, the most frequent questions I’m asked are ..."those incredible transformations are they for real?" And Secondly, "how do they do it?"

So to get you on track for 2012, to help you hone your New Years commitment to a knife's edge, this week I’ll identify the key traits of success that each of our MP Transformation Champions seem to possess.

Success Secret #1. Make the decision and have the reason.

People often sign-up for a transformation challenge or even invest in a Personal Trainer - this can be seen as a decision to change. However, understand there is a big difference between deciding and having the reason to do it.

Without a very clear reason for any important decision nothing great really happens. It’s the main catalyst for a successful transformation. Often, this is the spark that makes it all happen.

So make sure you’re not one of those people that start working with a trainer without identifying your reason to change.

No having a genuine reason is a huge “invisible obstacle” most clients and trainers fail to see.

You really have to have deep-seeded, "why?"

Quite often, the reason or your “why” comes from a snap point.

To be blunt, a snap point is a point in your life where you’d rather die than go back to the old way. It’s a defining point where you say to yourself, “I’ve had enough of this. I’m totally committed to doing whatever it takes to get out of this situation.”

This is the foundation upon which everything else is built. Have you had a snap point?

Success Secret #2. Clear goals are linked to dreams

Every single success story had an extremely clear goal linked to a dream. The first big obstacle here is not knowing how to set goals correctly. For example, telling your trainer “I just want to tone-up and get fit” is not a goal. It’s not specific, measurable or definitive. There's no deadline.

As important and powerful as goal setting can be, it’s equally important that your goals reflect your dreams.

In fact, goals should come from dreams. Goals really need to be in sync with your dreams or they’re worthless.

The problem is that most adults don’t dream anymore – life seems to squash our dreams out of us. To make your goals truthful, make the time to dream.

How do you begin to dream? Think of what will truly make you happy and you’re well on the way.

I’ll warn you right now, a truthful goal is often a quirky one – sometimes even frivolous if you try telling it to someone. Understand, this doesn’t matter, it’s what’s important to you and you only. Some of the greatest transformations I’ve seen have come from a desire to fit into a particular dress, a pair of jeans, a football jersey or even an economy class airplane seat!!

When you begin the process of setting and achieving goals, inspiration fuels even greater visions and more desire.

Success Secret #3. Focus on less & achieve more!

Often when people do make a commitment things get very noisy. They seek out information, asks lots of questions, look at all sorts of books, videos and information on websites. What’s the best diet? Exercise? How many calories? What about detoxing, fasting, blood typing etc etc? Revelation after revelation by another expert or “guru” overwhelms and contradicts.

Then life gets in the way, energy and enthusiasm wanes, progress stalls and resolve drifts away. We decide it’s all a bit too much trouble, we console ourselves with “I don’t look that bad” or “I’m doing all right for my age”….

One of the hardest things about a successful transformation is to block out the noise and focus on one important aspect at a time.

Success secret # 3 is not new but it’s very powerful.

Leo Babauta, author of the bestselling book The Power of Less, is a terrific example of someone that mastered this principle.

In just 2 years here’s what Leo did:

• Quit smoking
• Lost nearly 25kgs
• Went from no exercise to running marathons
• Changed his diet completely
• More than doubled his income
• Wiped out all his debts
• Wrote two books - a novel and a non-fiction

And you know the truly remarkable thing about Leo?

He did all this as a working husband and father to six kids!

How did he do it?

Leo focused on less! And he was able to achieve so much more.

Success Secret #4. Create accountability

In fact, I think accountability is one of the biggest obstacles people face with their transformation.

Often, clients get confused about accountability - they think that working with a personal trainer makes them accountable. Or even worse, increasing the frequency of those sessions will buy more accountability.

Just remember, even 6 hour-long workouts a week equates to just 3.5% of the entire week. We both know it’s the other 96.5% that determines success.

No doubt, MP paves the clearest and quickest path but its up to the individual to do the walking….

Accountability is the navigation system that keeps you on the path to success.

Here’s a great example…

On March 1st, 1983, John Bear, author and family man, was very overweight, he weighed almost 116kgs.

Not a wealthy man, John put $5000 into a trust to be paid to the American Nazi Party unless he lost over 31kilograms in the next 12 months.

Don’t forget, $5000 was an even more substantial amount of money back then. This amount was placed into an unbreakable trust. If he lost all the weight in 12 months, he got his money back. If he failed to do so, the trustee was to turn the entire sum over to the American Nazi Party.

Either John lost the weight or he lost the money.

That was all there was to it.

On March 1st, 1984 John Bear weighed under 82 kgs!

I read John Bear's, The Blackmail Diet when it was first published over 25 years ago. In fact I still have the hard copy.

John said, “Because of the size of the penalty, the importance of that much money to my family not to mention what would happen to the money if I failed….I literally had no choice but to succeed!”

He literally blackmailed himself to success.

Extreme? Yes.

Effective? Definitely.

The truth is, to succeed at anything important, we need to create accountability. Setting a new resolution this year is all well n good but how are you going to stay accountable to the task?

And remember, simply hiring a personal trainer won't cut it.

When a trainer and a client don’t experience the physical changes they’d hope for, I often find a lack of recorded information or data. Conversely, when I look behind an amazing transformation the documentation is equality as impressive.

Great workouts without structure and documentation, won't get the results people expect.

Highly successful people actively seek the help and support of others. The best mountaineers know the greatest heights are never climbed alone.Even the most experienced personal Trainer needs a mentor.  A successful transformation needs to start with the identification of those that will genuinely encourage and support.
